HGF and myocardial infarction
Numerous studies document the protective and regenerative properties of HGF on cardiomyocytes and endothelial cells. The figure shows a compilation of 25 individual studies examining the effect of HGF on myocardial infarction. These studies examined mice (4 studies), dogs (1), rats (13), rabbits (1) and pigs (6). HGF was delivered as recombinant HGF (4), adenovirus (7), plasmid (7), HGF transfected MSCs (7), a transgenic mouse (1) and an anti HGF monoclonal antibody. Significant reduction in infarct size (IS) was found in each case as was an increase in ejection fraction and an increase in angiogenesis when reported.
